DEN-CCl4 Model

It has been reported that many liver cancers develop from chronic liver diseases accompanied by fibrosis. The DEN-CCl4 model is a model that causes liver cancer backed by cirrhosis. Compared to the STAM™ model which has a diabetic background, the DEN-CCl4 does not induce diabetes and thus can be used for several study purposes. DEN-CCl4 model is created by a single dose of low-dose genotoxic substance diethylnitrosamine (DEN), followed by repeated doses of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), developing 100% liver tumors at 30 weeks of age. This model also allows the assessment of anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic and anti-tumor agents.

Compared to normal mice, fibrosis around the portal vein is observed in the DEN-CCl4 model.
